Hello John (or Juan? ) and welcome to the forum.
I guess that you are refering to the Mazda engine which come with the T3500 buses and truacks.
I had a T3500 Mazda bus which I converted to a motorhome. The engine is very strong and reliable but with 80HP not a performance killer, however here in Oz some T3500 trucks are fitted original from the factory with turbo and perform very well with the splitter gearbox.
You are not going to have many problems in fitting a turbo providing that the engien bottom (crankshaft and bearings) is in a good condition.
The T3500 bus fully loaded have a fuel performance of 1 lt per 10 km which is very good.
To me the engine is a copy of the Perkins, a very reliable engine as well.
    Cheers

    Hi Jon (& Chucaro),

    Welcome, hope we can help.

I'm not up on the Mazda engines myself but, do they happen to have a Bosch VE (distributor-type) injection pump with a boost compensator (or Nippon Denso/Diesel Kiki equivalent)?

If so, my tuning notes for the LR Tdi engines might be applicable. Please PM me if you would like a copy.

Its not a common conversion here in Australia so maybe a UK forum might provide better results.
