That is my understanding as well. Note that I think the arrangement of pipes is different as well - so you are likely to need some modifications there as well.

From what I have read it is possible to replace the 3 bolt power steering box from an '82 RRC with a later model 4 bolt box from RRC or Disco.
My understanding is that the fittings on the hoses are different threads and I will either need new hoses or thread adaptors. Other then that the later boxes will be direct replacement.
Is this correct?

hi, i did this the other way round ie fitted a three bolt box into a 86 rangie, i used all the hoses from the three bolt box and the resiviour and it worked really well
