D2 Pinion Seal - washers or Silicone

My front diff pinion seal is leaking again as is my rear and I am wondering if anyone has used come across felt washers for the pinion seal? I did not fir one when I replaced my front one some weeks ago but am about to replace both seals and would like to fix the leaks for good.......or as long as possible anyway. Silicone is another method I have heard of, anyone got any first hand experience with this on a D2 and can give me any tips? Also what sort of $ are the felt washers?

Presuming mine actually has oil in it I've never had a problem - is the surface the seal rubs on worn? Also if it's not already, get a double-lipped seal. Pretty sure this is the modern equivilant of the felt wiper seal on older vehicles (a smaller lip faces "out"). If there is room, you can also drive the seal in very slightly short of seating, so that the lip runs in a different place. If not, get a "speedy sleeve" to cover any worn groove. Some loctite flange sealant wiped around the inside of the seal housing before it is driven in can also help if there are scratches there that allow oil to weep past the seal outer ring (sometime these could be made when removing the old seal).

the felt washers go behind the nut to absorb the oil that comes out through the splines.....

is this whats leaking on your diffs.....?
if it is......then remove and clean the flange......and put some sealant in the splines
on the outer edge of the splines.......not right through the full length of the splines......
you only need to seal about 10mm of the splines......then you dont need to worry about
    the felt washers......
