my money says **** components, everything i broke failed without any hard driving.... diffs lost circlips, axle failed on a hill climb with NO wheel spin, CVs just started binding up.
You two guys have managed to break more components than me and four of my mates combined have in all the time we've had them (5 Isuzu Countys)...........what are you doing to them ????cal415 Well dobbo is actualy banned for a few weeks for reasons unknown to him so i will answer as well as i can on his behalf, i beleive his truck has suffered a broken front axle and CV as well as a centre, also a front tailshaft. not sure if he has done anything else.
as for me in my county, 2 county CVs, 1 rear salsbury axle, 2 front diffs most of that on 32s only the axle and a cv on 37s, and for my old disco just a rear diff.
If you're so dissappointed in your unreliable Countys with such 'weak' components, you should put them up for sale on here at a price which represents what you think these weak pieces of **** are worth. I'm sure they will be snapped up.![]()

a certain avatar pic has a county getting airbourne...
I wonder if driving like that could contribute to breaking anything? or weakening it for later breakage? :P
Indeed... Not to mention 37" tyres...
The county front axle is made of cheese (as are all rover diffs...). All failures seem to be largely limited to that area...
Rijidij - I agree. I have given mine hell, and surprisingly, everything has held up... I know plenty of people with 4BD1 stage 1s and 110s who have broken FRONT diffs and inner axles though. Upgrade those bits and all will be well provided you drive sensibly and run sensible tyre sizes.
If you run 37s and jump dunes, then you have no grounds to complain. I went "wheeling" in CO (USA) with a guy who had a 90 soft top with 37" rubber. He had installed a rear salisbury with 1.5" 35-spline axles, along with the best that money could buy for the front - but he expected the front to break...
How can CVs bind if the steering stops are set properly???
How can you claim no "hard driving" when every pic you post is dune jumping on 37's.. Do you know how easily rover axle casings bend under those circumstances??? You are probably breaking axles because of bent casings.
I have broken an axle while driving DOWNHILL on-ROAD!!! However the damage was obviously done during some "hard driving" a week earlier...
Not having a go, just pointing out - "you play, you pay"
Before you tell me what i am doing wrong you should read my posts and consider most of the broken stuff happened when i first got the car, before any dune jumping etc, and with standard tyres, and it wasnt driven hard, it never had a chance to, everytime i took it out something broke withing 20mins of entering the bush, all those who drove with me will tell you that.
Mine may have had a hard life from the previous owner i dont know but it wasnt getting driven hard when i broke it and i never had a chance to push it, but like you said the front axle is made of cheese, and as for bending the housing, all the airbourne pics were just prior to replacing the whole front housing with a 24 spline setup, i knew the risks but wasnt worried because it was all about to go that was also after all the breakages but i had 1 dud CV(binding and notchy) in it at the time.
The only thing that i really broke on 37s was a rear axle and it was the strangest break yet, went up a little climb nothing to hard, over the hard stuff i was practically idling up the top section and *CRACK* the axle let go. this is the same climb about a week before.

As for being unhappy with my county, you couldnt be further from the truth, it would take alot to get me out of my county. Im just puting up my experience regarding breakages, dobbo is the one having a whinge about the cheese front axle.... im just agreeing its weak when you compare it to what else is out there, I now have longfield axles and CVs and it all holds up well to the hard stuffall i have to do now is maxidrive axles and ARB locker in to the rear, then i can find the next weakest link
I agree, you play you pay, its definetly the case with rovers, if you plan on going hard off road with your rover, which SOME of you do, then you better have some mechanical know how to save you ass when you break something. But any one who think the rover driveline is strong, appart from the salisbury, is having them selfs on.
BTW that quarry is 5 mins from the pacific highway, and the various little climbs there are what claimed 1 rear axle, 1 diff and 2 cv's its as far as my truck go into wallaroo the first 4-5 times i took it out 4wding
well i guess you have been luckier then me or dobbo
im not complaining i stating what i have broken, and i do expect things to break, im not kidding myself about the rover drive line strength when it comes to standing up to 37sIf you run 37s and jump dunes, then you have no grounds to complain. I went "wheeling" in CO (USA) with a guy who had a 90 soft top with 37" rubber. He had installed a rear salisbury with 1.5" 35-spline axles, along with the best that money could buy for the front - but he expected the front to break...
It had nothing to do with steering stops, just flogged out, making noise making the steering feel notchy, if my steering stops were set to far then my 37s would minced by my radius arms and inner gaurds. How can CVs bind if the steering stops are set properly???
there is one pic of my car jumping a dune on 37s, theres another pic of my car completly stock with the front wheels up off the ground. thats 2 pics, i have posted literally 100s of pics to this site. Do the math. How can you claim no "hard driving" when every pic you post is dune jumping on 37's.. Do you know how easily rover axle casings bend under those circumstances??? You are probably breaking axles because of bent casings.
obviously you were driving it to hard, you must have been airbourne on 37s down that road.I have broken an axle while driving DOWNHILL on-ROAD!!! However the damage was obviously done during some "hard driving" a week earlier...
Me eitherNot having a go, just pointing out - "you play, you pay"![]()
Probably right, but with enough practice this can only improve
Yet another axle, on 7.50 ATR's
Ok try and jump a Stockton dune in a na 4BD1, I'm lucky enough to climb them with 7.50's dropped to 12psi
Bite the bullet time, I call Jmac to see how much a set of Rover axles shipped to Newie are, I thought a simple question.
He asked me to draw a sketch of them and fax/email it down to him
Is this guy serious????
I am tempted to send him a picture of one of the horses rears
I called them recently about getting some 35spline axles and stub axles made up, it was a pretty pointless conversation, anyway, Keith for rover tracks might be the best person to talk to dobbo![]()
