TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator

I think my FPR is starting to go - feint dieso smell around the engine bay but still runs fine and there's no noticeable leaking.

Anyhow, I've found the Bosch regulator on ebay ($70-90 delivered from the USA) and can order the o-rings and gasket; one question remains: Is this all that can go wrong with the FPR?

I'm liking the idea of spending less than $100 instead of closer to $400 but I really don't want to touch it again for a long time, if ever. I can also get the whole thing from the UK for less than $200. Is there a reason LR doesn't sell a kit for this? Are there other components that can go or are they making it quicker for 'their' workshops?

I was told by a landy wrecker that if you have the 3 hose fpr, you should replace the whole thing or at least the hose that goes around to the front of the engine. That particular hose is prone to becoming brittle due to the heat and splitting. This dumps fuel onto the alternator and stuffs it.

I have had that hose fail on me. Leaking through a pin hole in the rubber hose part, but spraying due to the pressure.

What about the hose tail on it? Do you just cut it off?

Mine is leaking as well. Defender 160k, not bad as yet just wet bell housing and a rough idle when stopping then returns to normal after a few moments. Thinking that as well as the Orings I will put a reg in as well. Cost less than $100 rather than around $300 for whole genuine assembly have found a reg on Ebay here

Be careful from the US at the moment if it's coming mail. I recently got an SVS kit from the US and it spent 4 weeks in customs here in a backlog. Dispatched on the 14th August, arrived in Melbourne on the 16th and got to me week before last and that was priority airmail...

Yes, I have also had an item caught in the customs for over a month recently. But that was one of about 10 purchases, the rest were as fast as normal.

See the hose tail on it? What happens to that when you fit it into the TD5 fuel pressure regulator? Does it need to be removed (I would assume so otherwise I don't see how that would fit in)?

It's only the vent tube for the diaphragm assy. On the TD5 it's just a hole so if need be you could trim it off if need be.
Think some setups use it in a similar situation to the 3.9 V8 reg where it keeps a constant differential to the manifold pressure but might also just have a hose running somewhere so it doesn't fill full of crap.
Shouldn't really need to do anything as there's a clear space when you look at the reg placement. The hole faces down so it drains if it leaks.

From what I understood, on petrol engines, that hose tail would be connected to a source of manifold pressure/vacum and this pressure or vacum moves the internal diaphram somewhat to adjust the fuel pressure based on the use.
