Thread: TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator

Is dodgy idling a symptom of a failing reg???
I noticed mine leaking the otherday and it's only just started but it's coinciding with rough idling.
Cranked it over the on the weekend and it started blowing a bit of white smoke and idling rough while trying to hold revs up a bit.
Funny thing is it's fine in reverse, generally fine in park but idles rough in all forward gears.... :/

My car had fuel leaking out of the regulator at a drop every second and idled roughly.
I have pulled the regulator out after cursing the bottom 10 mm bolt for 30 minutes.
On mine the O ring that failed was the small one on the plunger 10mm outside diameter and 2.65mm thick.
The larger one 25.7mm outside diameter and 2.55mm thick seems ok, however I will change it anyway. This corresponds with 0.799" inside diameter by 0.103"
given on the post.
I just want to add that you also need to buy the 10mm outside diameter by 2.65mm (approx) O ring if you want a spare.
Does this make sense?

I have just ordered the Viton O rings as suggested by Disco Dancer last June.
He covered all o rings correctly there.
The numbers he quotes are for the actual o rings not the regulators as Black Knight Australia seem to have thought. I hope this helps.

You need 5 O rings to do the job.

3 x 6mm by 1.5mm viton 75
1 x 106V7 .799" by 0.103" viton 75
1 x 117V7 .174" by >103" viton 75

I have ordered plenty of O rings and happy to share at cost.

just a comment on O rings, You really should be only using Viton not Nitryle as viton has more resistance to low sulphur fuel and will last longer regarless of heat.

Hi all.

I´ve my regulator out for the second time as the leak did not stop with a new gasket. I´m trying to pull apart the diaphragm but no success... (the c-clip is out). do i have to pull it, unscrew it, rock it?? seems stock some how...

help will be appreciated.

It pulls straight out. There will likely be some dirt and gunge build up to get past. A bit of a push inwards first and then a slight turn should see it done.

Dont turn it when putting it back in.

did mine today using the part numbers supplied by Tombie, thx.
big thanks to all that contributed to this thread as it made the job quite easy. 1 comment and recommendation i will make is for D2 owners, tkae off the inlet manifold as part of the course.
i did this, took me about 7 minutes or so to get the manifold off and this gave me heaps of room to work on the regulator and i could actually take off the fuel block and remove the reg without disconnecting and messing up the fuel connections or removing the heater hoses and dropping coolant.

a big cheers to David for allowing me to do the job in his driveway as well. always nice to meet and greet fellow landy and AULRO enthusiasts and very much appreciate the hospitality.

all in all took me longer to go into town and get the o-rings than it did to do the job.

hopefully it is a long term fix, but obviously only time will tell
