    This doesn't look right!

    Hi All,

I have an issue at the moment with the starter motor (2002 td5 II) and after reading the tutorial on the td5 starter repair, I decided to squeeze underneath and see where it was. While I was under the car however, I noticed this threaded hole without a bolt or plug in it. (see pic)

Now I can't find a pic' showing this exact spot in my TD5 workshop manual but it doesn't look right to me. Is this the gearbox filler site?

Also found these two plugs hanging down near the gearbox/bell housing, left hand side to the back. Surely these are supposed to be plugged into something too?

Wonder if the motor and M & S flashing lights are related to either of these??

    Cheers, Pete'

    The bolt hole is normal.

I'm not sure re the plugs, but without crawling underneath, they are not the ones that go back to the transfercase are they? They indicate whether the box is in low/high range and if the CDL is locked/unlocked. I don't recall the colour codes on them.
    Cheers

No idea what those plugs are for... but mine are not connected to anything either!.. ( I was under there today)

So I think you don't have a problem.

Is that the wading plug hole? Hmm, no, it looks too high.

Re the wires, they should be easy to find out. Use the colour code and look at the ETM.

The bolt hole - methinks without checking my car - is where you install the locking pin when changing the timing chain, or replacing the head gasket.... as I may have done recently.

The connectors may be for the manual gearbox if installed. It is not unusual for cars to be wired up for all options in some locations.

Maybe that's where all the extra volts escape from after the battery is fuly charged and the alternator is still spinning
