Modifying a transfer PTO winch drive

    Hi all
As some of you may know we are in the process of fitting a Rangie lt95 PTO winch to our isuzu/lt95 county.
The main problem being the position of the transfer PTO drive unit
It sits to high on the transfer and to allow the shafts to fit there will be a fair bit of cutting to be done to the floor etc.
We thought maybe we could rotate the drive anti clockwise on the back of the transfer and that would open up a much better route for the shafts to run
We tried this but found the PTO drive wasn't long enough so it can't be done UNLESS we could some how extend the housing and chain etc about 2''s.
Has anybody done this? We've talked to a local engineer and he seems to think it should be possible.
He reckons it would roughly cost $120, we'll keep you updated

Here are some pics to clear things up a little

The little red line that says ''cut'' is roughly where we are thinking of getting it cut and a 2" spacer welded in between.

Obviously we will have to get a longer chain and drill/tap a few more holes but that aint a problem.

    TIM.

might pay to put an idler in on an adjustable cam to help deal with chain lash if your adding an extra 4 inches of chain to lash about.

That would be a good idea, where not looking forward to having to adjust the chain properly, so that might be our best bet

Be prepared to coat the lot in goo when it becomes porous after welding

Did you consider the suggestion to rotate the housing by drilling new mounting holes?
    The selector may need realigning.

Tim, I was just having a look at mine and I'm not so sure what you're suggesting is the go. My one is a Thomas.

If you extend the PTO drive it will interfere with the chassis. There just isn't a lot of clearance there.

Also, are you running a shaft that has a bearing in it so that it can clear eevrything? Thats what my one had, and it also goes over the gearbox chassis mount.

Is it the PTO unit that will hit the chassis or is it the shafts that will be the problem?

    Cheers
    Slunnie
