    Defender Headlight

After reading many posts of different headlight probelms I still cant find an answer

My low beam headlight on the passenger side doesnt work at all

Ive checked the fuses, globe and headlight plug and given the wiring a good jiggle

It works fine on high beam

No power to the red wire (low beam)

Could it be the switch? or would that effect both lights. My switch is only 2 years old as is the dipper switch

I assume it isnt an earth otherwsie I wouldnt get high beam

    vehicle is 200tdi defender

    Thanks

If it is the same as the earlier 110, and I'll bet it is, the left and right headlights are separately fused - and this means the most likely problem is a blown fuse.

Of course, then all you have to do is find the reason for the fuse blowing, which may be a rubbed through spot of insulation, most likely where the harness rests on the inner guard.

On the other hand, the last fuse that failed on mine was not a blown fuse - it was a faulty joint between the end cap and the wire - on a genuine Lucas fuse, probably an original one.

Thanks but I checked all 4 fuses and they are OK therefore I assume no rubbing thru on the harness or loose wires

Does the headlight switch has separate connections for the left and right low beam?

There is not a separate switch connection for the left and right - this happens at the fuse box. Check the voltage at both ends of the fuse - as I said the last one I had was a faulty fuse that appeared unblown. There is also the possibility of a bad connection at the fuse. Failing this it will be either a bad connection somewhere past the fuse box, or a wire actually cut, probably against an edge.

Thanks found it a broken wire further up in the guard

That section has all been replaced as they were all quite brittle

Lucky I didnt go pulling switches apart!
