    oil leak

My 300tdi has developed an oil leak around the oil pump (or I assume it is the oil pump) It is located below and to the rear of the mechanical fuel pump. Is this likely to develope into a major problem preventing me from driving? How easy is it to rectify and how do I do this? Jim

"major problem preventing me from driving"
Hard to say if we cannot have a look at it. My old Disco was leaking on the houses and never give me problem during the 100000 km that i have it with the leaks.

It would be good if you can reapir it now that it is not serious and not have problems later on in the bush

You're not referring to the vacuum pump are you? They are notorious for leaks...

    oil leak

My mistake. It is the vacuum pump. What is the repair needed? Just a tightening of the mounting bolts or gasket replacement? Jim

There is a repair depending on what's gone wrong which involves drilling the rivets and replacing with small bolts, or you can buy a brand spanka for around 90 pounds from the UK.
There is also much debate as to whether after market ones are as good as the genuine article. I installed an aftermarket one and after 15000km a welsh plug fell out of it. Cost me $2.50 to fix. To me, the design of all of them looks like they are just asking to fail But I'm no engineer...
