I bought some RR Sport wheels and tyres last week. One of the tyres has a tear in the internal sidewall, around 75mm long, and not visible from the outside. It's had a flat tyre and probably been damaged at that time.
Are these repairable for use as a spare?
A new tyre is worth more than I can get for my daughter on the white slave market and as much as I paid for the 4 wheels and tyres!![]()

It may be repairable provided the cords are not damaged, but best of luck finding someone prepared to do so!

Last time I took a tyre to be fixed with a damaged sidewall, they bloke told me that it was illegal for him to do so. So he didn't.
Fortunately, the guy that fixed it in the middle of Kangaroo Island didnt seem to worry about what was legal or not...
I decided to play it safe & scrapped the tyre.
Note to self: dont take an XR6 to Kangaroo Island. Take a LR instead.![]()
I don't think it is illegal - I think it is outside the industry code of practice. This may in some cases void the repairer's insurance, but I doubt it would unless specifically mentioned. Of course, the code of practice was developed by the industry - which has a vested interest in selling new tyres.

Get a radial tyre patch and proper cement and fix it yourself.
It will be ok as a spare and drive accordingly if you do have to use it.

Legal hat on...
No.
Get you home hat on.
Yes, but you really need to use one of the reinforced patches with the heavy duty glue if you expect it to last.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I was talking to a bloke from another tyre service last night and he's offered to have a look at it.

I'm with Dave on this one...
I'd scrap it if I were you, especially as it's on a car capable on decent highway speeds.

Bugger. The tyres only have a few hundred km on them. They still have the little moulding sprues (?) sticking out from the tread.
Decent hwy speeds? Here? Crikey, go over the 110km/h freeway limit and you are looked upon as a mass murderer. Elsewhere you're lucky if the road has a 100km/h speed limit.
