I haven't actually seen any evidence that the oil can actually get into the ECU. My plug was awash with oil but I don't think its in the ECU or at least after years there's been no probs if it is there!

I have oil in the harness and there is enough for me to want to check the ECU. Do I just have to force it open leaving marks all around the edges or is there a better way?
Cheers

Don't worry it won't be in the ECU, i had mine appart when i had oil in the harness and there was absolutly no trace of oil inside the computer. Just took me ages to clean out the plug's...

I clean plugs with crc co cleaner. Quick and easy but not that cheap.(also great for cleaning puter m/bsand mobiles when dropped into water)Just remove rubber seal at plug at computer end.Cleaner makes it swell.
Puter comes apart quite easy but the oil is never present inside. If you do pull cover off reseal![]()
I had oil in my ECU back in the early day of owner ship and dealer servicing… I’ve also seen a photo posted on a UK LR forum of an open ECU that was nearly full of oil. BUT in both cases the ECU actually had oil leaking out of the join in the cover along the bottom edge (as it stands in the car), just a small weep but it was obvious – the UK forum showed pics of exactly the same thing.
So it definitely is possible to have oil in the ECU but I think it would be obvious and I wouldn’t go removing the cover, I also had an enormous amount of oil weeping from the plugs.
Touch wood I have not had any problems since the new harnesses (injector & engine) were put in – and I was lucky enough to have the oily ECU replaced with a flashable one – all under warranty.

While its a good idea to reseal, it doesn't matter too much as there are breather holes built in to the case anyway, which nicely lets water in (speaking from experience unfortunately)
From memory they can be seen from the inside easily, but hard to tell from the outside
