    750R16's.....who got them

I have been lamenting over the tyre choice for my RRC for some time. It has been a choice between 33x12.5x15's or go back to the original 750R16's. The 31x10.5's are just about past their used by date so I will need some new ones soon and Ruddy has just paid me so theres no time like the present

I have decided to go down the 750R16 inch route for various reasons but I was wondering who else is using that size tyre and what brand/tread pattern is available these days.

I am looking for a very open pattern, for mud obviously, and its not a DD so noise doesnt bother me. The old girl is only on the black top from home to the mud on weekends

    any suggestions and pics welcome

A Rangie on 750X16 will do what a Cruiser or Patrol on 33s can due to diff size.

750X16 is a sensible choice as unlimited tread patterns and Rags are available. Also available up to 16ply rating. Some 33s are 10 most only 6Ply.

Best of all they can be cheap.

If you want something cheap but very tough have a look MRF 14ply bias Super Traction. They are horrible on the black top but are the only tyre here I can't kill off road. Other than a 16 ply Superlug but they are not so good in mud

I have used a set of Michelin XZL 7.50x16's for a few years now. They came with the 130 wheels I bought.

I really only wanted the wheels but the tyres were virtually unused so I thought I may as well wear them out.

They a very tough tyres and I have been impressed with where they have taken me. I have done about 20,000km on them with the defender - most of this in the bush. (Second set _ I have road tyres for the city) No punctures and only a few chunks taken out of them. Haven't seen a lot of mud though (It doesn't rain much down here!).

I have recently transfered them to my 109 and hope to get much more use out of them.

I am a bit of a fan of "skinny" tyres now!

thats the only tyre size for a real rover...

swmbo doesnt like the handling of the heavier duty tyres on big red so she (big red) gets the 235/87r16's

    as mentioned

lots of constructions to choose from, even more tread patterns.

and you can get them cheap as chips.

I love the XZL's, I borrowed a set off a 99 130 and fitted them to my RRC to try them out, I'd be using them now except they aren't tall enough

I second that - Michelin XZL 7.50R16 is for me the best tyre. Terrain doesn't really matter.

I've got Olympic Steeltrek on the 2a and have run Bridgestone 604V on the County for fifteen years, with results good enough that I have had no desire to change.

The Michelin XZL's look like a good tyre. Aggressive, but not too aggressive.
I had good dealings with Michelin in the past. They replaced a set of tyres that developed a fault in the sidewall at the edge of the tread. I had to pay for 2 tyres to get the other 3 free. The thing is, the tyres they replaced were 10 years old. 5 new tyres for the price of 2 after 10 years of use....not a bad deal.
Also, a mate who fitted tyres for years said that Michelins never needed as many weights as other brands when balancing.
