I have removed 3 (various) systems from friends 4WDs now. Why? they had rust. Only cars fitted with these I've seen with no rust also had a good coat of paint...

Talk to an industrial chemist, I did....

It will protect your Defender really well - definitely won't rust while there’s a good layer of paint on the car. Get a Hyclone too.

Seen heaps of cars now with this rubbish developing good surface rust once they get a few kms and the original paint or underbody coating is thinning. I put the question to a Friend (was my best man) who is an Industrial Chemist and after a looking into it for a week came to the conclusion that he can’t believe they can market it. Electrolysis and Galvanic corrosion maybe but rust no.

Try and find a car with some bare metal - see if it has rust...

Do you reckon that snake oil is cold pressed?

Or do it while they're warm and active?

Would have thought that for that kind of money you could get a galvanised chassis, and get someone else to put it together.

Some years back, Overlander did an article on it espousing how good it was Some time (a year or two) later I suggested a follow up article.

They never did it. I wonder why.

Here's a good little read: Car Rust and How to Stop It (Dr Karl Homework: ABC Science)

Some years back when I was buying the D2 I asked a couple of the corrosion specialists at work about these systems. The answer I got was basically the same as the above article. Cathodic protection systems don't work on a car. Strictly speaking they aren't snake oil, but they also won't do anything to inhibit rust when used on a car. Boats, bridges, pipe lines are a whole different story though.
