    ZF Park Pin?

    Hi All,

The auto in my 92 3.5 disco has stopped holding in Park, with just a click click click as it roles down the hill The RAVE CD indicates transfer out to fix this but can anyone provide any more information? Can any adjustments be attempted prior to removing and replacing parts? How hard is the job once the the transfer is out? What parts will i require? Anything else worth doing while accessing this area of the box? (car has done 330k but no other issues experienced with the box to date). Any idea on cost including labour for a transmission place to complete the work?

Not sure if relevent but over the last couple of weeks (so similar time frame i would say) i need to hold the selector forward in Park to start the car, so either a faulty switch also or some kind of adjustment required there to?

    Thanks in advance.

    ZF parking pin

Hi Before changing anything have a good look at the shift cable, they tend to bow out away from the gearbox side if not clamped, there should be a clip near the end of the outer cable fixing the cable to the autobox case. If this clip is left off/not fitted the cable bows out and gives exactly the effect you describe. Hope this makes sense.

Hi Ian (and others in the know )

Just climbed under and the cable is still retained on the transfer mount but i changed that mount not too long ago so maybe upset its position? There is no clip onto the side of the auto?

To try adjusting this do i fiddle with the location of the retainer on the mount (which i imagine would only be a mm or so movement on the bolt) or adjust the threaded end? Or should there be another clip that is missing?

If adjusting the end i assume i remove the split pin to remove it from the gear box and then adjust in half turns until it works? Any recommendations on which way to turn and what else do i look out for when adjusting, i.e. too far and it will not start, too far the other way and it will not engage gear or similar?

    Appreciate your help.

    Thumbs up ZF park pin

Hi I would take out the split pin at the gearbox clevis, pull the shift cable away from the lever then put the shifter in park and the autobox in papr now check the clevis alignment with the lever, we usually set these up in 'D' to split any error, but check clevis alignment in park and 1st.
