Thread: Front locker... Mcmanara or ARB

If you already have a locker in the back them I would keep them the same brand. Otherwise the Guys over here tend to prefer the macnamara. The arbs leak and let the air out so the compressor runs all the time. Something to do with axle case flex. you would think they would both leak being air lockers but the macs dont seem to.

Thats weird. The ARB doesn't compress agains the axle case. I think the Maxi ones are the only ones that mount onto the housing. Both the ARB and JM both activate on the hemisphere. The place where my ARB's always leak air is around the compressor O ring, but after it threw a rod I replaced it with a new type which is outstanding in all ways.

I've not heard about the ARBs leaking air and the compressor running continuously.

I've got front and rear ARBs in my 15 year old Disco 1 (fitted from new) and apart from a fuse rusting out and stopping the compressor dead they have been faultless. No leaks at all. Compressor only runs to power them up and then nothing for hours if they are not switched off.

Matt: I don't know if The Macs are any better or not, but I certainly wouldn't say a bad word against the ARBs. 15 years of trouble free service.

For my next project (my 130 TD5) I'll probably go a Detroit locker in the rear, and a soft locker in the front.

ARB

I rang McM and lets just say customer service is not his selling point. I'd also consider ease of getting spares and repairs. ARB is universally available (consider Maxi drive systems and spares). I've heard stories that parts for some of the early McM are no longer available.

I agree there is very little in the price and matched with Maxi drive axles & flanges the way to go.

I had a Detroit full locker on the rear of a 200TDI Disco. Now there's a locker.(you either like or hate them)

At the moment I have a detroit locker in the rear that I fitted last year and am very happy with it. But an auto locker for the front is out of the question I have thought about the trutrac for the front but they aren't alot cheaper and I like the idea about disengaging it completly when I want to. But I think I will go for the ARB the two times I have rung Jac macs I too have had the same sort of service which leaves a little bit to be desired.

I had the True Track on the front and while it was good it was not as good as a full locker would be.

But still an awesome combination

I could be wrong but i think the tjm prolocker is the same as a Jmac locker
also i think the prolocker is out of production at the moment, i heard that the prolocker is similar to the arbs but with out the problems arb have with leaking O rings etc

The Prolocker is made by JM.

I thought the new series ARB's had a revised actuator????
