    Landrover 300 Tdi tools

    Hi there.

Is there anyone who can give me the dimensions and specs to make up these tools?

They are used to remove the front crankshaft pulley on the 300 Tdi engine.

a normal gear set puller will get the pully off and you dont need the crank locking tool you can either fill a pot with oil through the glow plug hole on the compression stroke OR put it in gear if its a manual.

If you are motivated to have some tools for future occasions, do a search on 'crankshaft locking' - a handful of threads will give you an idea of what others use when looking into the front end of the 300tdi. Since making tool 12-080 is a tad difficult, most of us go with a locking pin in the rear breather hole ( If yours is a manual - auto's have locking hole up on the side). It is handy to know that the holes in the crank pulley are M8, and the one's in the timing pulley are M5 (And they need to be longer than 50mm). Consider removal of the radiator before you start - it makes a bit more room and no worrying about punching a hole in it. As for tool 12-049 & 12-031, as Mr BK said, an ordinary gear puller ( I've done it with just a steering wheel puller) will suffice provided the previous owner hasn't epoxy'd it on or done something silly. I have done three timing belt changes with just my M14 fine x 55mm long HT bolt with a 5mm x 5mm spigot machined into the end. And that was using a 3/4 inch breaker bar with a 1m extension to torque it up.

I can't help with the TDI, but from V8 experience the front pulley retaining nut to the crankshaft was a cow to loosen.
I ended up putting a socket to it and breaker bar, ( you need to know which direction your engine rotates) I then disconnected the coil lead ( diesel you would have to disconnect what ever fires your engine)
Then cranked the engine a second , this loosened the nut easily.
To get the harmonic balancer / pulley off I used a harmonic balancer pulley and bought 3 extra long bolts .( the supplied bolts were too short as the pulley is dished) this pulled the pulley off with out removing the radiator
