sorry Simon , I should have made myself a bit clearer, it's a follow up conversation I had this morning regarding ZF Auto with 4HP24 internals that A & B do the mods for with Bruce Davis , I recall Bruce saying that it's all well and good that they put extra clutch packs in , but something about a Spigot rather that can **** itself in Low Range even with the beefed up ZF 's , better Oil cooler , better cooling lines .etc.

hence my comment earlier on the 5th gear off-road, but seeing that you did mention the crusing around and toruing to/from the bush < I would probably treat the R380 with a lot of respect even in 5th behind a Blown V8 motor if I was to drop one into the Rangie , however I still am undecided but an swinging more towards the R380 into the Rangie rather that beefing up the ZF and keep it going...

Sounds good to me. I just need to get the 40 series cruiser finished that is in the way about 6hrs work in it. Move the series 1 and kids Dak Dak for latter. A few engines and gear boxes etc. Sweep it out and life's good
Hope we get some good rain here soon so not feeding stock full time

My ZF was largely a mystery - especially when the car had 240000k on it before it got to me... "It is supposed to change at these revs"... "why does it lock up now"..." is any of this normal"... An no other D2 experience to compare it against.

    So two notes of thanks:
First to all those who post useful info about their ZFs. It has helped a heap.
Second - to A and B Automatic Transmissions who checked mine today. Change points and lock ups are all where they ought to be.
What they DID find was a leaking rear seal. Good to know!

Lesson - check early -check often... !
