			Tips For Polyairs

I'm going to put a set of Poly air helper springs in my D2 (I think). It already has a 2" OME Lift.

Any tips on putting them in that optimizes performance and longevity?

Already have spring compressors.

Do you need to protect them from the spring retaining bolt heads and put something in on top to make them stay?

Thanks in advance.

Ian.

You should get rubber protectors for the tops of the airbags in the kit, and for the D2 I'm led to believe that there are some bolts required to fix them to the tops of the spring mounts. I 've just swapped out polyairs for the blue Firestone versions from the Airbag man (Google that and you'll find it). My D1 has the 2" spring lift, and it was readily apparent that the polyairs I had taken from a normal Rangie, whilst OK until I sprang a leak, could have been better if I had found a set specifically for the 2 inch lift- (they're longer). I cable tied some sheet rubber (Clark Rubber) onto the spring retainers, drilling out holes for the bolt heads.
As to the fitting, I didn't need a spring compressor, but used chassis stands and a trolley jack. Undo the top shock fittings and take them off the mounts, as it makes life a lot easier.
Then, I jacked up the chassis rail near the rear radius arm and put the stands so the rear wheels are just on the ground. When you jack up one of the wheels a bit and take it off, and drop the axle down, the spring is relaxed sufficiently to lever it out with a screwdriver - think articulation off road. Or you could use the spring compressors at this point. Just remember to watch the flexible brake lines so you don't damage them.

Thanks langy, that's some good advice. Especially about the 2" Lift.
