    "Maxi Drive" Track Rod Question

After bending my track rod a few weekends ago amongst few other bits , I ordered a Heavy Duty Track Rod from MR Automotive.

so Today I bolted all the bits on to the new HD track Rod but the Track Rod seems longer than OE so What have i missed here ?

    Any idea ?

Exactly how much longer is the maxi one compared to your standard one?
There are different maxi rod lengths available depending on the model of the vehicle, maybe there was a mix up and you ended up with the wrong one.
Might be worth giving them a call.
    Cheers Eric.

Could it be a D2 one? They are slightly wider I think.

Eric , on the invoice it says Millitary 110 I told MR Automotive my vehicle is a Disco1 , presumably the 110 track rods are slightly longer ?..
So it is very highly likely I've ended up with wrong part...

the HD track rod has a LH and RH thread.... YOU DONT NEED THE EXTENTION FROM THE OE TRACK ROD... you just need LH and RH threadded tie rod ends

center to center of the tie rods once set up should measure 1325mm.

    cheers phil

That arrangement is standard on the D2 at least. Mind you, LR didn't do it quite like that.
    Cheers

its also standard on a D1 but not a HD track rod.
its purley there so theres one type of tie rod fitted to standard steering systems, ie both rh thread, the adjustment is in the short adaptor as it has a lh thread.

Thanks for this Phil , so would this part WOULD have to have been ordered seperately ?Is that the piece I'm missing ? I tried to bolt on the tie rod ends without the EXTN and as you "pointed out" it has the wrong threading...

From Memory as pointed out by Phill you have opposite threads. With the disco you have to buy the left (?) threaded tierod. At least I did on the 200TDI many years ago
