    Battery "zapper"

I have recently built the Jaycar zapper kit K5427. Has anyone tried out one of these and if so, your comments please.
I have to wait till I get a sulphated battery to try mine out. Since i've been keeping my batteries on trickle charge I've not been having so many problems. Perhaps I should have done this in the first place instead of spending my $100 on the zapper??????
I've placed this thread on the Jaycar site but it hasn't appeared yet. Being a "company run" site they may censor any potentially negative threads.
    Comments/experiences/tips most welcome.
    Regards.

I use a 1.25 amp battery Fighter that I got from Supercheap for $69, this is what trickle charges my camper battery at home.

When I'm camping I use a 20watt solar panel, it puts out around 0.8 to 1.0amp and does the job great, 5yrs so far out of our camper battery.

The solar panel is good for us as we don't run a fridge, just lights and the water pump, if your running a fridge then a bigger panel and a regulator would be needed.

I built the Jaycar kit a few years ago - I use it for keeping the batteries on cars we don't use often working. The last example was in our Tarago, we have not driven it for about 5 months ( we have 6 cars to choose from) and never got around to disconnecting the battery and someone had not closed the rear door properly so there was absolutely no charge whatsoever - 0v on the multimeter. It would not even take a charge from the charger, but connecting the battery zapper (with the battery charger on the zapper inputs) and after a few days it was fully charged. I discharged it fully using a spotlight, then re-charged it with the battery zapper again and after that it would take a normal charge.

I refitted it and we have been using the Tarago for the past month every third or fourth day and the 2 year old battery el-cheapo autobarn $49 battery starts it as well as it ever did.

I have re-rejuvenated quite a few batteries since I bought the kit - extending the life of the batteries by about another year at least - the main killer of our batteries was lack of use or leaving the interior light or door open for a week or two.
