    Discovery Unlocking woes

Hope someone can help ! A mate at work has a 2003 Disco. It seems on cold mornings he is unable to open the car with the key fob. Where is the alarm module located ? As a defender owner I am not familiar with them.

The receiver is located in the roof on the (from memory - could be wrong) passenger's side. The rest is controlled by the BCU behind the glove box.

Given its happening on a cold morning, I'd suggest he tries replacing the key fob battery with a new one before anything else.

Thanks dm TD5. We have replaced the batteries. I was going to have a look at the receiver and give it a once over. I'll get him to have a look and pull it out.

Anything more. We need to fix it as the car is unusable.

If you know someone with Rovacom or a Nanocom (I think it will also do it), they can check if the key fob button press is being registered by the BCU.

It's not unheard of for the alarm receiver to fail, but it's not common. It's also possible the system has a fault and this needs clearing in the BCU.

The other thinggs to consider are the car's battery voltage - should be above 11.5V (from memory) and also to try using the EKA code.

Same thing happened to me and the main disco battery was down a bit. Charged it up with a battery charger and it was OK then. Also seen it happen with a battery that is on the way out. Cold morning would explain this too

    cheers
