Thanks for the practical real-life follow up. What engine did you try it out on?
This is what I've been waiting for, at the moment my TD5 is really rough on start up, the pump is screaming it's head off until the engine and fuel warms up, my assumption is that the diesel I'm getting as winter diesel, isn't good enough to do whatever It's supposed to do:mad:
This only happens in the colder months of the year.
So during the cold months adding 2 stroke would make it worse than it already is.
OR
I have another problem:(
Baz.
I tried it on my 300Tdi. It seems like a lot of oil to add each time, (ie could be quite expensive).
Why not use BP Ultimate diesel BP Ultimate Diesel
This is same price as opposition diesel & has additives that clean engine/injectors give improved mileage & won't void warranty.
Cheers..B
First Time w/2stroke Oil - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum
Seems with the bigger engines it's quite a popular thing to do.
There is a lot to read but the general consensus was positive.
Cheers.
Paul.
baz, would have to agree with tusker.
why not try a double dose of diesel additive initially and see if any improvement, would not have thought it would do any harm?
saying that last weekend yours sounded shocking compared to mine driving shocking....
cheers

It seems to be positively reported across many forums, but I can't understand why it would increase fuel economy. I can't see the science behind it.
I tried it in my manual TD5 for a couple of tankfulls. It seemed to improve general light throttle/low revs operation but no improvement in fuel economy, possibly even worse. I stopped using it for a couple of months but started again recently to use-up the bottle. Once again the engine seems more willing pottering about (much like after a good run) but still no apparent difference cruising. I wont bother with another bottle.
When I ran a RX4 rotary it was often the practice to add 2stroke oil to the fuel tank instead of using the oil injection. I also did this with my trail bike.
But it was always thought that if the car/bike was left to stand for a few days the oil would settle out of the fuel. There for I would be worried this might cause problems in a build up in filter bowls, the tank, any separators etc.
I wouldn't be doing this in my TD5.
