2000 Defender Extreme Air Locker P/N

Hi Guys, just wondering if any defender extreme owners have had an ARB air locker fitted to the front axle, if so what model did they fit to your rig. I have tried to fit a locker from a 95 disco to my rig and the defender axles are to big for the diff carrier, the won't even make it to the side gears spline. I am a little confused I thought all the 24 spline landy stuff was interchangable.

    Any help would be appreiciated

As Paul said in the other thread, it should fit.

There is a small difference in spline diameter between the Sals and Rover 24 spline but I can't remember which one is tight in which female spline.....

I know when fitting Maxi axles to drive flanges I've needed to use some gentle persuasion with the hide or copper faced hammer too.....

Part number for Defender front is same as D1 was RD56 now RD128, RD20 is for the Sal's in the rear but there is no way you mistake that, however the Later rear's are an RD138 (used to be RD57) same as D2 rear, difference is the size of the flange.

well I have some more info on this subject. The RD56 locker that I have does not fit front 2000 defender axles, but it will fit disco/rangie axles. I was at a Landy service centre today and we had all different half shafts from different models and the defender TD5 does not fit or a P38. Very ****ed off

Hey pete did your defender come with abs/traction etc from new, that would be the difference in the axles. Something that I don't think alot of people know. I wish I did before I started this project.

I dug out my old Maxi catalogue last night and found in it where Mal states that the Rover 24 spline side gears are 4 thou (0.004") tighter than Salisbury ones.
Why, no one seems to know......
