    3.5l crank nut size?

I have an early 3.5l with crankshaft pulley nut that accommodates a crank handle (book calls it a 'starter dog'). It is bigger than the standard one.

Does anyone know the nut size for this bolt as I cannot get anything into measure it properly?

    Cheers,

    Peter

Bugger i used to know it, think it is either 1 13/16th or 1 /15/16th. I know i had to borrow a bodged up socket to get it undone that was 1 socket machined down and welded to another.

Are you requesting the thread size (diameter and pitch) or the AF size?

I think he is asking the size of the head of the bolt so he can geta socket to undo the bolt. Bob

    Bumping this thread.

I'm not sure what size the crank pulley bolt on my 3.5 carby engine is.
24mm fits but is a bit loose. 22mm is a bit tight
7/8 is too small. 15/16 is too big.

Secondly, I was trying the 15/16 socket with the 'jam the breaker bar against the chassis rail and crank the engine' method, but the bolt was stronger than the engine cranking....

I am considering getting a compressor and throwing the right socket on a 3/4" drive rattle gun....

    Thoughts?

Many years ago, I had to call in a bolt specialist after that starter dog sheared off in the crankshaft. If he could not have got the remaining bolt out, it would have been an engine rebuild..... Be careful.

    Cheers.

I just want to make sure whatever further socket kit I get has the right size for the job. Or I will need to just buy one individually.

I would buy an impact socket as no doubt the bastard will be tight and a normal socket may fail.
