Fitting a Disco V8 in to Defender

Hi , I have a 93 200tdi Defender which is great, and has good fuel economy. But it just dosent make the same noise that my old Range Rover did. So im thinking of rewening the economy and putting a 3.9 V8 motor, 5 speed gearbox and transfer case in it from a disco. I plan to buy a damaged disco from the auctions so I get all the bits i need for the swap. Im just wondering what year disco to buy to make this swap easyer for wiring and fitting etc . allso one that has the better gearbox and transfer case combo. Any ideas on what year disco is best ?

A mate has just done the exact same thing you plan to do to yours
If your after a 3.9ltr, you will have to go an update model disco1 93/94 onwards, pre-94 were 3.5s
I think it will be a pretty simple conversion, i would personly go for an r380 gbox which are found in an update d1 anyway
I think the 3.9ltr is a good choice.

If it just the noise your after you could always record a V8 onto MP3. You could get a couple of hours driving off one CD.

yeah that would be ok but i would have to up grade my speakers to woofers so i could hear it over that rattling 200tdi

Thanks mate I will Ill look for 94 onwards with a R380...One thing i did notice though that the 4x4 selector was infront of the gear stick on the disco . I guess i will just need to use defender linkages on it so the hi/lo selector is behind gear stick ..
