does the interior light have a time delay circuit.......?
or should it switch off straight away as soon as the doors are shut.......?
Ok have a problem with my interipr light in my 110.
Here is what happens and what i have done.
Interior light works with the on switch but does not work in the switch posiition for working when the doors are open.
Replaced the door pluger switches, Nothing . And checked cable which shows that there is power going to the door switches. And also check the switches are earthing which they are. Also tried to earth the switch from another area, still not working . .
Took the light out and checked the cable and connections in the light and all is ok. And checked the interior light switch fuse which is fine . Still not working
Can anyone shed some light on what may be the problem
Cheers

My Defender is a 2004 TD5, but your probably works in a similar manner. The RAVE CD has the following description for a 300 tdi system:
DESCRIPTION
Dependant on model, the Defender is provided with either one or two interior
lamps. One in the front, and one in the rear of the vehicle (if fitted). Both lamps
can be switched on manually using their integral switches. If any door,
including the tail door, are opened, the lamp(s) will illuminate.
If an immobilisation system is fitted to the vehicle, the lamps are controlled by
the Alarm ECU. The ECU contains a time out feature which switches off the
interior lamps after eight minutes if any door is left open, thus preventing
unnecessary battery drain.
It may be necessary to check the operation of the Alarm ECU, as this could be the source of your problem.
Cheers,
Lionel

got a defender 130 1995 model. Mine is doing exactly the same with the interior light switch. Any clues yet?
the timer delay was in the relay..........
check the relay for the interior lights......borrow one if you can.......
I think that is exactly what my 1998 Defender was doing.
IIRC, I found that one of the earth or mounting screws inside the light itself was missing. I think I just swapped one of the existing screws into a different screw hole.
In other words it was a poor earth inside the light itself.
