    R380 ATF to Syntrans

    Hi All,
My R380 still has ATF in it, I would like to change to a MTF and Syntrans seems to be the pick of them.
Question: is ATF and syntrans compatible? Should I be doing a flush, and if so what with.

    Thanks.

Just drop the ATF, refit the drain plug and fill with Syntrans.
Due to the design of the box there is a little oil always left behind, but unless you want to waste $$ 2.5 litres of Syntrans $$ by doing a complete dump and refill again, just go drive it.

(yes, I've been known to do complete flushes...... )

    Hey Rick,

Is there a specific designation/name for Syntrans? as I cannot seem to find it anywhere!

I ended up using a Penrite something or other, but would prefer Syntrans.

    Hi Pete,
I asked for at at my local Super Cheap today and they tried to sell me Syntrax. told me I had the name wrong.

    Don't be fooled!
    Syntrax is 75W90
    Syntrans is 75W85
Some one in town should be able to get it in.

syntrans is made by castrol, you can mix it with reg atf. just do a dump and refill!

nothing wrong with normal atf, the synthetic just lasts longer!

Pete, SuperCrap usually have it on the shelf, as do Burson's, et al.

    Be a little careful these days as there are four versions, our ol favourite;

Syntrans 75W-85 (also has a Volvo Trucks pt. #)
Syntrans M 75W-90 (for Eaton and Spicer truck boxes, IIRC it's actually closer to a 75W-110, miles too heavy for anything we'd be driving)
Syntrans Max 75W-80 for ZF commercial 'boxes as used in MB Sprinters, smaller Iveco's, etc.
Syntrans B 75W-80 which is almost ATF in vsicosity for the gearbox in the XR6 Turbo Falcon.

The Max and B are pretty new and I've never used them, but I've always had the fluid getting too thin in summer anyway using the 75W-85.
