    rear helper springs

looking at beefing up the rear springs on our 110, looked at air bags and by the number of times I've pulled sticks out from the springs in the high country in Vic these would have been punctured many time over so I'm looking at a set of LR helper springs off a 130 which is LR's way of beefing up a 110 raising standard 3050 kg GVM to 3400 kg GVM with standard 110 front springs and 3600 kg GVM with 130 front springs.
The question is has anyone out there done it and what sorts of weight are you carrying permanantly in the rear to load the springs so as not to have too much effect on the ride.
    looking for anyone's comment

Perhaps members could post if they have burst their airbag helper springs.
I personally havent heard of it,have done plenty of off-road work and un-sealed work in my D2 and havent burst one as yet.
People, please dont confuse this post with Discovery/Rangie air suspension systems, keep it to the polyair/firestone inside the coil airbag helper style.
Not wanting to hijack the thread, believe the failure rates are low.

I've been using standard rear springs with Polyairs and 130 front springs (standard 110 HD) for more than 15 years now without one punctured airbag. I also run Koni shocks. Had a friend who went down the heavy duty rear spring path - he tried no less than six different set-ups before settling for set-up described above. Apart from the ride being unacceptably harsh with the heavy duty springs, they were causing other problems and failures with the vehicle.

Among other trips, I've spent about 30 weeks touring the Vic High country in County, 200Tdi and Td5 Defender and although I often get sticks caught up underneath, none have damaged the Polyairs.

Fair to say I've done a bit of driving in the High Country and I've never had any trouble with Polyairs. I have the same set up as Xtreme and it works well.

I have to add the Polyairs have been fantastic when I put the boat on the back for the NT Barra trips. Once again, no problems.
