Hi,
Quite possible that your centre diff lock is on (if fitted, warning light if fitted on or off is irrelevant) or if you have a viscous coupling instead, then it may be seizing up.
cheers, DL
My 91 series 1 V8 Discovery is winding up on me. I feel pressure when turning into a park ect. It goes bang every know and then(I realise i should not be driving it but will have to for one more day then i can get a spare car). The 4wd light comes on when i put the cdl on and off when i pull it out but i am guessing it must be stuck or something. I assume it will have to come out but hoping for a simple fix. Can anyone tell me any common causes of this. Thanks in advance Brett

Have CDL not viscous so i guess it has to come out???
You could have also broken the spiders in the diff and it is locked up ... But I like Jock the Rock's answer / pointer better![]()

I was once told about this.
For some reason I have this picture in my collection of Landy photos. I think a similar thing happened to a mate of mine.
I reckon someone a little more experienced could explain it

Need to spend some time, jacking and turning, either the centre diff isn;t disengageing, or it ted's mate....rooted![]()
If the CDL is stuck in, try reversing to disengage it.
You may also have to turn whilst reversing (like reversing around a corner) to get it to come out - this always works for me.
This is what the manual says:
Transmission wind-up
If transmission wind-up is suspected and when
it is safe to do so, reverse the vehicle a short
distance and then drive forward. This should
unwind the transmission and the differential
lock warning indicator should extinguish.
If, after two or three attempts to unwind the
transmission have been made and the warning
indicator remains illuminated, consult your
Land Rover Dealer/Authorised Repairer as
soon as possible. Your nearest Land Rover
Experience centre will also be able to offer
advice.
Thanks for the replies guy's i guess i will have to pull it out as i have tried reversing and so fourth. Can i pull the centre diff out without pulling the transfercase out???. I have not pulled any of this stuff apart.
Also i have a transfer and auto from a 95 Disco in the shed. Will the transfer or parts from the cdl fit mine???. Thanks again Brett
