Does your diff lock engage properly?

What is the light on the dash telling you?

Is the interior trim or boot pushing on the lever?

    Yes, ditto.
Might be jumping between positions 2 and 3.

to eliminate the linkage I would suggest removing the short lever at the transfer case end and using a 10mm spanner turning the actuating stud clockwise until the 2 flats are at the 2 o'clock position,

this is now in diff lock,

check by jacking up a front wheel, handbrake on and the wheel will not turn if centre diff is locked,

now drive it, (off road) and I doubt it will jump out,

reconnect and adjust linkage, flats at 2 oclock is locked, flats at 12oclock is unlocked,

if it's still not locking in the 2 oclock position, back out the diff lock switch,

the diff lock selector fork has a 45 deg angle ramp that pushes the switch plunger when engaged, if the switch is in too far or the plunger is sticky it can stop the fork from sliding into the diff lock position,
