Whenever I've had that problem I get out, shut and lock the car with the remote, and then start again. It's always cleared the second time.

X2 - you could also try the unlock sequence using the key in the door…

CAN error? i assume that the ''funny b'' is an infinity sign?

CAN errors are a communication error to or from the ecu... dont know much more than that sorry.

I don't think the immobiliser part of things actually uses the battery.. it's inductance loop stuff. The battery only powers the remote central locking.

    Question Agree with captain

Around the ignition key barrell is an induction coil. When the key is in its field (ie inserted) car starts when key is turned, if the car has been unlocked. If the car is "locked" and you try to start it the alarm goes off.

I was just playing with this the other day as the plastic switch attached to the back of the key barrell on mine had come apart inside. The induction coil is in the rubber grommet that fits around the barrell and mates to the uper and lower casings of the steering column. With the switch removed, I could turn it with a screwwdriver and start the car only if the key was in the field of the coil, otherwise no-go. Apart from a damaged wire though, I can't see this failing - no moving parts.
I saw no error symbol though I did not look for one.
Out of interest, try locking the car then manually unlocking the drivers door - from memory alarm will sound untill key remote is operated.
If the key battery was down the range for its operation would decrease or fail altogether too.

Would oil in the loom have any impact or does the engine ecu have nothing to do with it? Have you had this problem?
