Thread: the right grease for x9 super winch?

Hi All,

got around to pulling apart the x9 winch today- all looked in pretty good condition after I cleared off all the crud and old grease...not bad for a 10-15 year old winch...... now, the old grease looked more like bees wax than 'grease'...am now wondering will moly grease be suitable to put in its place? or is the x 9 supposed to have this thick bees wax looking goop, or does it just look that way because it is old and well past its use by date?

I packed my High mount with moly grease last year.Be carefull taking any winch apart,don't let the drum hang by it's own weight taking it out as it can damage the cover seals. Pat
