    200Tdi Defender Aircon Conversion

    Hi Everyone,

I'm new here to the forum but not to landrovers and i get the sneaky feeling i'll be floating around these pages a lot more in the future; so hi to everyone.

Anyhow im thinking of importing my 200Tdi defender 90 into Australia and at the moment it doesn't have aircon which im starting to think could be a bit of a problem. Does anyone know if a complete 300Tdi defender aircon system can be installed into a 200Tdi defender, or better still has anyone done this or another conversion?

    Thanks for the help.

    Cheers, James.

    G'day James!

The 200tdi and 300tdi are similar but different enough for that not to work. Bearmach do a kit, but it's big money for an old Landy!

I'd suggest you see if you can get the in-cab bits from the UK and then you may need to make up the rest from scratch in Oz, as the 200tdis are rare compared to 300tdis - even rarer with AC.

    Regards,
    Greg

    Thanks Greg.

I'll have a look at the bearmach kit and see what i think. If not i may do what you suggest and try to piece something together. I know it might be easier to just buy a 90 with aircon but i've modified the 90 so much to the extent that its pretty much a winch challenge truck now i don't think i could ever sell it. I just want to see what i can do to make it a bit more Australia friendly.

    Cheers, James

Aircon on Defenders in Australia, excepting mid-eighties Countys, is aftermarket underdash. Afaik it's much of a muchness and you should be able to find the bits at a wrecker without too much trouble.

Other alternatives are a roof mounted aftermarket unit, or JDNSW has the cab part fitted under his cubby box.

My air con stopped working about three years ago and I have never missed it.
