Soap.
Need urgent info on any glues or solvents which could be used to carry out an emergency repair on the Plastic type fuel tanks used in Discos, Defenders and Range Rovers.
Thanks, Erich.

That would work with a steel tank...not sure whether it would work on a plastic one.
Thanks Ron
I plugged up a hole on my mates Scania fuel tank where a bolt on a mudflap
rubbed through with sikaflex. Diesel - aluminium tank. It would probably work on plastic thank, Not sure about petrol though. Lasted a year. There is a repair putty you can buy at most motor spares places for that type of job.

I carry "Quiksteel", worked on a truck sump.
Only good for metal though, no good for plastic.
Could try a screw with rubber and a washer???
When U find out i'll add it to my trip tool box, hadn't thought about it on this car(last one was steel).
Just thought of the name of the stuff "kneedit epoxy putty" or similar
,,,,,Mark
Soap probably won't work with diesel.
I just had a look at my fuel tank and it's marked HDPE.
There's not much that will stick to that.
I had a look at the Loctite site and Loctite 406 with 770 primer might work.
Otherwise it might be a plate over the hole repair.

The problem is for a mate who is in some bother. Not sure of the size of the hole - crook phone reception - but it is a HDPE diesel tank. As discussed - either a loktite product or bandage / self tapper with a 2 pack liquid metal or sikaflex type product should get them moving.
Thanks for the quick response,
Erich
Knead-It epoxy filler, sticks to anything and sets like stone, comes in a cylinder with part A and B in the same sausage-like arrangement, you cut a slice off and knead the lot together to mix. I've used this to repair a cracked diff housing and holes in jerry cans, wouldn't go on a trip without it. Mitre10 have it.
Problem solved for now. The hole was as big as a golf ball, punctured by a stick. Repaired by removing the tank, plastic welding using a piece of a garbage bin as weld filler. Hopefully it will be all OK.
Thanks for all the input,
Erich
