    Electric vacuum pumps

Has anyone tried an electric vacuum pump?, i'm getting sick of replaceing vacuum pumps on my Tdi (third one just gone) and thought it might be worth a shot. Tell me i'm crazy if i am but i would like to know the pros and cons if any of this from some one with more knowledge on the matter than myself.

I have some information on one that I was keeping in mind for my Isuzu engine. It has the vacuum pump on the alternator, so it would give me more alternator options.

I had a quick look and couldn't find it, but will be here somewhere.

Plenty of alt/vac pumps around. Try your local auto sparkie and check thru the listings they have on complete units, otherwise try a 4WD wrecker and see whats available. Pretty common on a lot of older 4WD diesels and Ag applications. Just match up and your done.

    Cheers

    Andrew.

I think he'e talking about assholeing the vac pump/alt combo, fitting a leccy vac pump and opening up the reasonably priced options for alternators

    Correct.

My Isuzu is 24V, and if I want to change to 12V, there are more readily available (thinking of replacement spares in distant places) and cheaper options, if I don't need an alternator with a vacuum pump.

Anyway, I found the info on vacuum pumps for the Ford 7.3l diesel (thanks to someone who posted a link to it on ALRO a good while ago).

    Aaaahhhhh... misread it...

Maybe something with an A/C compressor.... dual purpose vac / pump.... on a pressure + vac switch to kick in the compressor as required.....

Hmmm.. think I just gave myself an idea.....
