3.5 V8 Fuel and Oil Pressures

    Fuel Pressure

My in-tank fuel pump for my carby 3.5 V8 may be playing up - has stopped making a noise but the engine still runs OK. So I am wanting to install an in-line backup.

So I get the right pump - can someone advise the required PSI range and fuel flow.

    Oil Pressure

The engine oil pressure is 30-40psi at 2400rpm, but does anyone know at what pressure the oil pressure switch for the oil pressure light works at?

The 101 has a system where the fuel pump only works when there is oil pressure. This has been disabled on my 101 but in doing so the special oil pressure switch that works the fuel pump was removed. I have installed an after market pressure switch but testing it with a multi meter with the engine on and off it does not seem to work - I suspect the one I bought requires a higher oil pressure than the engine delivers.

    Thanks

Fuel pressure for carbies, depending on what they are, is only a few psi.

SU's are known to flood the fuel bowl with much more than a few psi.

A straight forward Facet 12V pump will more than suffice pressure wise.

Try your local auto parts store, cheap as too.

    Cheers

    Thanks.

It is a standard 3.5 with standard strombergs. I have been to the auto store and is clear as mud - pumps for carbies range from 2psi to 10psi and from 38 litres/hour to over 200 litres/hour - as far as being cheap, prices are just either side of $200.

So I want to get a pump that matches original pump specs.

    Cheers

    Garry,
Oil pressure lamps are usually around the 7 to 10 psi range, and the fuel pump can be sourced from a wrecker easily as carby equipped Mazda 929's (RWD models) and Capella models etc had the same pumps in them.

Sorry Garry just to clarify the 'Facet' type pumps were the factory fit for those Mazda models.
