The instrument panel light dimmer wheel (rheostat) bbq'd itself (transistor burnt out). Since we always have the lights on the brightest setting, can I just bypass the rheostat all together? ie feed the signal wire with 12v from the light switch?
thanks in adv,
taz.
Thanks Andrew,
No need for a pic - I have the wiring diagram and I can apply a jumper at the 3 pin plug. I just wasnt sure that all the down stream instrument lights were 12v.
Thanks again!
Cheers,
taz.
Bugger - spoke too soon!
Of course there was a reason the transister blew - a short somewhere in the instrument light circuit. Just spent a frustrating afternoon trying to locate it. I isolated the instrument binacle, heater panel, clock light, aux switch panel, steering column, etc and yet the short is still there.
From the rheostat dimmer, the signal wire (red/brown) disappears into a thick wiring loom under the steering column. According to the Rave CD, it then goes to a splice connector where it is distributed to the various light circuits. Unfortunately Rave is for the 1995 model and mine is an '89 - so I'm not sure this splice connector exists - I cannot find it anyway - which is a bugger because it would be easy to isolate the fault if I could get to it. The only wiring diagram I have for the '89 is more of a schematic and doesnt have the splice details.
