Shot Coolant Pump ?
G'day All,
I'm thinking I need a new coolant pump but would like your learned opinions; 3.9 V8 May 1995 build -
Symptoms are -
- start from cold and let it run at idle, about 750 rpm - gets warm and fan cuts in. I can then squeeze the radiator top hose so that I squash it completely, no flow felt in the hose,
- give it a blat and hold it at ~2500 rpm - squeeze the top hose and I can feel coolant "spurting" through in the hose, but no where near a constant solid flow, and,
- put a very long screw driver on the coolant pump and listen at the end - a good imagination would say that it doesn't sound right.
Other things -
- temp gauge rises to a needle width before 9 o'clock and doesn't waver,
- the thermostat has been repaced (right way round) and is operational,
- system has been bled - I think we did it corectly, up hill and all that, and,
- in summer I have had a (boiling?) overflow from the expansion bottle but only if the aircon has been used - so I don't use the aircon.
My gut tells me I should replace the pump .... yes ??
Thanks in advance,
Grant
