    EBC brake pads. Noise free?

The rear brake pads on my 130 are nearly due for replacement and this time 'round I want to give myself the best chance of curing the squeel that I've had to put up with for the last few years. So which brake pads? I know there's no definitive answer to this. EBC make some big claims about their Greenstuff pads being noise-free. Can anyone comment? And where do I get them from in Australia?

I got them from Paddock, around UKP24 plus postage. If you fit them to your existing rear discs they may squeal. Either fit new rotors or get yours machined.

I've got EBC Greens front and rear on my D1 and they stop it real well. Little more brake dust on the front alloys, but I wash it off every week. No noise with new discs fitted.

I've run the EBC's on new and old rotors. You may get the tiniest of squeel when they run in (but unlikely). Other than that they are always perfectly quiet - I've had quite a few sets of these.

BTW, Bendix I'm now finding to be a better performing pad that the EBC 4x4 6000 pads, but I think some people get squeel from them. They have also been whisper quiet for me.

    EBCs are awful pads...

Go Bendix 4x4, on new or machined discs...

And dont forget *proper* anti-squeal paste on the backs of the pads when installing.

ive been using el cheapo pads in lurch.......and dont have any problems......

and by el cheapo.....i mean $26 a set........
and have not machined any rotors........

i think its just a matter of luck........you could have two identical vehicles.....
    one will squeal.........the other wont........

put whatever pads you want to use in......if it squeals......then you need to take some measures to stop the noise......
if there is no noise.......dont bother.......

Ohhh, I hope you get a better run from them. Mine squeeled a fair bit but never triggered the 3 amigos.

My experiences with EBC pads in mountainbikes makes them a brand I'm avoiding for all vehicles.
I find it's dust embedded in the pads which makes mine squeak. When the dust wears out it stops squeaking. I'm not a fan of machining disc rotors either. If they're damaged, then replace them. If they're not damaged then they don't need machined.

    Interesting feedback.

Slunnie might remember me saying a few years back I was warned off EBC Green Stuff pads years ago by one of DBA's engineers. Miles too inconsistent batch to batch in their testing.
At the time he recommended Ferodo in front of Bendix, which was what I'd found several years before with extensive testing of race car pads in light race cars (which included Mintex, Hawk, Carbon Metallic and a couple of other manufacturers and surprisingly were pretty similar compounding to HD road pads)

I've had good experience with Bendix 4WD in the Patrol too, although they aren't as kind to the discs as Ferodo.
The downside with Ferodo's is they squeal like banshees in the rear of the Defender when dusty, even with their anti-squeal backing.
