Why does my interior light go off when a second door is opened?

If I open any one of my doors the interior light comes on.

If I then open a second door the light goes off, if I close ether of the open doors the light stays off.

If I open any door and then the rear door the light flashes.

Wow that's even weirder than mine!
Is the back door a "flickering" flash like a dirty contact or a regular one?
I would presume the lighting is controlled by a chip somewhere, perhaps behind the glove box. Sounds like yours needs a check - not sure if it can be done by a diagnostic computer?
Does anyone know if the "daylight sensor" on the front centre of the dash impact on the interior lights?

I thought this was normal until this weekends Jenolan trip and then I found out that mine was the only one doing it

All the lights work. open any one of the doors and the lights work fine. Open 2 = no lights.
1 door 1st + rear door next = interior lights flashing on and off
