Ok, I'm glad others can follow, because I'm more confused than ever

It was my understanding that the Tdi R380's were 22mm, and that the V8s were 17mm.

If the Isuzu is also 17mm then that would be annoying as it means I'd only be able to get a short stick box (well have to convert a short stick to a long stick..)

I've been looking at a box from a Td5 defender.. anyone know what the spigot is in them? IIRC this is a 22mm........... <insert incisor safe expression of discontent here>

sorry guys i should have just asked the right question in the right forum
    Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)

Makes sense - the LT85 was a V8 box with a different bellhousing and T-case gears.

AFAIK all 2.25 and 2.5 engines (and boxes) have one size, all V8 (and isuzu) have the smaller size.

I just went and measured a Tdi R380 at 22 mm
    and v8 LT95 at 19 mm (or possibly 0.75")

At the start of the Isuzu forum there is an Isuzu parts list that says V8 & Isuzu spiggot bushes are the same.
