This appears to be in a private forum, that I can not access?

Oh dear - I forgot that! Yes, the automotive section is only available to members! (Mind you, joining Whirlpool is free and worthwhile for any internet user!)

"Energy Meter causes 10K of car damage"

This is the nub of it

"1. Not the ECU it is the BeCM (Body control module) (landrovers have at least 5 separate computers onboard)
    2. Landrover use 433Mhz exactly the same as these devices
    3. BeCM cost $4000 each have gone through 2 now put labour =$10k
    4. The damage is done because the BeCM is not allowed to sleep as it is constantly woken up by the energy meter.
    5. Landrover have confirmed other customers have had the same issue!"

Model Landrover not specified, but apparently a Rangerover, possibly a P38A.

    Well that's no good!

I remember a thread on here a few months back about a D2? that had a similar problem.

Something to do with wireless stuff in the house not letting the electronics sleep, thus draining batteries and causing lots of electrical problems.

I don't know what meter it is, but I recall scouse confirming a problem (IIRC related to the immobiliser) some had if parked near the detectors used at Amcal Chemists.

An energy meter is a gadget that measures how much power is used at a premises - I presume the one referred to has a remote readout connected to the actual unit (which may be in the garage along with the car) by a radio link, and this is what causes the problem.

IIRC its cropped up before as either locking/unlocking, or the battery frequently constantly going flat with an intermittant drain on the battery that was eventually tracked down to the meter

Sounds like the new smart energy meters that are being installed in premises these days. The one at work has a built in NextG or GSM modem which allows the meter to be read remotely.
    Cheers Garry
