    Tyre size advice

    Hi all,
Very soon once suspension is done I will be fitting bigger boots to my 97 tdi disco. Have a couple of quick questions for all you tyre gurus out there.

The flares I have fitted / guard trimming I have done will fit up to a 33" tyre.
I was thinking of running 265/75/16 with an offset rim that would be appropriate. How much will these tyres affect my gearing? and is there a common after market CnP ratio I can use to bring the gearing back to standard?
    or
Is it going to be eaiser to run a 285/75 or 255/85 something closer to 33" and use 4.1 ratio in the diffs?

If I run the tyres closer to 33" I will have to go the ratios straight up, where as the 265's I could probably get away with running them on stock gearing for a while.

I have been thinking about this for a while, a lot of people here run these sizes please let me know what you think.

Hi Andrew, I run 235/85/16s on my tdi disco which is similar to 265/75s, about 32inch. The fuel pump and turbo have been tweaked which helps push the larger tyres. But hill starts and towing can still be a problem. I wouldn't go 33s without fitting 4.11s gears.

I fitted 4.11:1 cw&p in my 300Tdi disco and some 33" muddies that I had left over. The speedo read faster than actual speed given by gps.

I now have 265/75R16 mtz's and the speedo reads 10% higher than actual from gps (i.e. 110 kph from speedo = 100 kph from gps).

    Hi Andrew,
I ran 265/75,s (same car) with a 2" spring lift & a bit of snipping here & there.
Very minor rubbing, but it did slow it down a tad, u would deffinately want to change ratios to step up to 33,s.
    Cheers Dean.

    ratios

Are 4.11 ratios the first step up in ratios?
Is there something between the standard and 4.11's. The reason I ask is 4.11's will be to highly geared for 265/75's. So If I was to run 265/75's would there be anyway to get my gearing back to standard?
I'm just thinking of the poor old tdi, its slow at the best of times let alone trying to push bigger tyres. There is an easy solution to 33's just fit 4.11's.

Also is there realy all that much difference between 265's and 33"'s I would gain 30mm in diameter of the wheel?
