    hood lining

i have an 85 range , in the lining in the roof it has lifted away from what ever it is glued to, about an 8" circle . what i was thing of doing was getting some craft glue and a syringe filled with the craft glue poke the needle through the felt and spray some of the glue around the area that has lifted away and then squash it back up by hand and perhaps put some thing solid underneath with a rod from the seat up to hold it in place untill the glue has set , just woundering if this has been done before or does any one know of an easy fix for this problem

This is a common problem on many models these days. The outer material is glued to foam, which in turn is glued to a cardboard backing. The foam degrades, causing the sagging. The best rectification is to take it to an upholsterer, costs in the region of $300.

    You are wasting your time.

It's been tried. Search and ye shall find.

Pull it out (easy to do) and get it professionally done. Not expensive.

Occasionally you get fibreglass roof linings come up on ebay, last one I saw went for about $150 from memory.

Thanks from me too as I was thinking of doing the same thing.

This is why I reckon I get my money back by subscribing. Just saved myself a few more dollars as I am sure the upholsterer would have to charge more if she/he had to deal with my unsuccessful glueing attempt.

i have seen this done successfully but only when there is no foam backing, i too was a sukker and got a can of spray glue, poked it in and sprayed but just made a mess of it as the foam backing breaking down into powder prevents anything from sticking. I would give it a go if no foam backing otherwise forget it.

Do these fit all cars or do you have to get the right one?

    Cheers

I have seen the fibre glass ones for the rangies where the original roof lining is in two pieces, ie front and back. I have not seen a fibreglass one for the later classic rangie which has the single piece roof lining. Fairly sure we have a couple of the early model roof linings made from fibre glass in the shed.
