Rear Seats Disco I/II
Thinking of selling the 80's and going back to a Disco..... (Yeah I know
)
BUT budget wise I have seen a few very good buys in series I Disco with the 300Tdi and auto (I like the 300Tdi and the Td5 is out of the budget), auto as I feel it would be a better match, last one was a manual)
We have 4 kids (that's why the Disco went.. needed more space) and I didn't like the centre facing rear seats, has anyone tried fitting the seris II forward facing seats in to a series I Disco or perhaps some Prado/Patrol/Pajero ones by any chance?
(If it can be done this may mean the 80 can go!)

I don't think you can retro fit the dII seats rear easily because of the floor. The DII floor is custom made to fit the seat. Also the DI is not as spacious in the back as the DII.
Why would you want to get rid of a good 80's. A Disco I or II will not have that kind of relaibility :-)

Just ask any Toyota owner... they don't break down they just do LOTS of preventative maintenance! (ROFLMAO)
Nah hasn't been to bad.... just no personality!

I am not looking to turn this into a b1tch fight at all but don't mind a bit of friendly banter :-)
My Disco II TD5 gave me so much crap. It was the most $$ I ever paid for a car, the most expensive car to maintain, cost me a fortune in breakdowns and I got stuff all for it when I sold it.
I just got sick of the fact it was not reliable.
So I went over to the dark side and got a toyo ( which was also alot better for towing my van), but yes I know what you mean about personality
Then again, I'd rather not have personality as long is I also don't have the bills

LOL yeah I hear you.. unfortunately if you are the one with the lemon it doesn't matter what brand it is it leaves a very sour taste.
I work at for a 4x4 accessory supplier and I find that rover owners are probably the most honest about repairs/reliability, nissan owners aren't bad and Toyota owners (generalising here of course) have the most trouble admitting they have had to make repairs...... (The sentance often strats with I replaced it... just to be sure) then the story comes out that the vehicle had broken down and a list of things got replaced. Don't get me wrong if I had the $$$$ one of the last 100 Series cruisers with the 4.2TD would be on the list (with reinforced front arms).
But I laso like the Disco off road, medium wheel base (the thing I also dislike about them! lack of comparative room) live axles, can use low ratio on the driveway backing the boat up (very steep!) and relatively easy to work on.
I think it more comes down to you either love them or hate them! lol.... depsite selling the Disco I have still kept an eye out on them and been lurking here!

I spent the last two yers travelling around OZ. I started in a Disco II and finished it in a 100 series factory turbo.
I got so sick of my Disco. One problem after another ( and I had had it for 2 years before that with lots of issues ). Lots of electronic issue, Doors not opening because of dust ( nothing more frustrating when you can't get into rear of car due to rear door not opening and cargo barrier ), exhaust manifold studs breaking, Front dirive shaft unijoint dying etc etc etc to name a few.
Final straw was gearbox died in Kakadu and I could not find anyone in Darwin to fix it for a couple of months.
So I bought my cruiser and have not had any issues with it.
I do credit the car with perhaps saving us from serious injury with its good suspension and road handling when I car and caravan got sideways and ended up doing a 180 comming into Weipa. I think any less of a car and we would have rolled over
