    Do I need castor correction bushes?

    Hi All,

    I have ordered some suspension off shane at suspension stuff. 50mm raised Dobinson coils and lovell shocks with bilstien steering damper. I have gone for the longer shock option in the rear so will need to retain coils in.

    Now when I was talking to shane he did not mention anything about castor correction bushes, he said if I went more than 50mm increase I would need castor correction. I called a suspension place in town today just to see how much they would charge for the install and they were of the opinion that I would definatly need them?? I know a lot of people here are running shanes gear do I need them or not??

    2nd question is how long do I need to extend my brake lines with the extra travel I will have in the back. Not quite as much travel as the procomp option but close to.

    I don't believe you wil need castor correction bushes. You could if necessary slot your balls (search for post by disco_white about slotted balls) and adjust the caster that way. Though for 50mm you should be AOK. The suspension place said you would definitely need it because that's what they do. (Vested interest)

    If you are fitting the suspension to a Disco 1, don't fit correction bushes as this causes vibration problems with the front end. Not sure about other models.

    Sorry left that bit out it is a Disco 1. And that is what I thought if I needed them I'm sure Shane would have told me

    hmmm theres something that just isnt right hearing about someone slotting there balls.... it makes me wince everytime i read it!

    50mm lift would be fine without castor correction, unless you end up with a 4in lift i wouldnt bother.

    You should try it Mick, it's quite invigorating - so I've heard . I'm yet to do mine as I'm waiting to see if the new HD track rod and drag link solve my current problem before embarking on the slotting of one's balls .

    Nothing worse than having your balls at the wrong angle and being unable to rectify it.

    If it's a RRC or D1 then you will end with zero or negative caster with a 2" lift, aka the shopping trolley effect. It makes driving them 'less pleasurable' without doing something about restoring the std 3 degrees of caster.

    Most will agree that slotted swivel housings is the way to go. Heaps of info on here and OL.
