Have you undone the flex drive plate for the torque converter

Anyone got some ideas about how to separate a 3.9 from the auto trans to hoist the motor out? Motor is stripped to short motor (crankshaft, rods and pistons only) so pretty light. All engine to transmission housing bolts are out and trans is supported at the front on a stand. Motor is clear of engine mountings and swinging but no matter how much turning of crankshaft or rocking of motor in various planes I cannot get it to part from the transmission housing. Am fearful of levering on aluminium or transmission stator plate. any suggestions or past experience appreciated. Also considering purchase of a rebuilt 3.9 short motor or even a new one if anyone has one for sale.

It doesn't matter if he hasn't, the torque convertor will just come off of the trans.
It sounds like corrosion has set in around the dowels. Try lots of WD40 or similar around the join between the engine and trans. Double check that all bolts are out.
I recon undoing the Torque converter from the flex plate (and pushing it back into the Auto box bell housing) is a Hot idea ... If you leave it on the flex plate and try to remove it with the motor, you will drop a heap of trans oil on the floor, Total mess ... and run the risk of damaging the Trans oil pump and the convertor itself

Thanks for the helpful suggestions bblaze, BigJon and MikeRR. Not draining torque convertor is an oversight so thanks for the reminder and will try the WD40 on the dowels and join.
Ok Will unbolt and slide back torque converter as I know your expertise in these matters is great!
