door locks adjustment help - 90 RRC

    Hi all,

The passenger door sill button was dropping a couple of mm and latching the door which meant either key opening from outside or leaning across from the drivers side to let someone in.

I've just spent all weekend trying to adjust this (+3 turns -3 turns +6 turns) all very slow. Finally thought I'd cracked it, replaced the door card, and shut the door...Except (don't laugh) I hadn't cracked it and now cannot get the door open at all....

Anyone know how to set the door locks up properly???

The plastic lock lever can bind in the plastic retainer guide ... you have to clean it all in soapy water and make sure it slides up / down in the guide freely ... put all the trim back on and recheck that it moves up / down freely

Other than that ... you basically take the lock out of the door / clean & relube it /play & ajust the locking actuator spring at the locking mechanism

Take the door trim panel off and pull the button up / down while watching how the lock and the spring works ....

That silly looking over centric spring is a popular problem. Done three in mine http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...placement.html

Laptop! perfect.. was thinking of throwing one through the window - at least be able to get in....

The silly overcentric thing is the issue I think - the inner handle is dragging the sill button down - hard to describe but obvious the whole shebang is coming out for a scrub

Thanks - great advice. Just need to find a couple of midgets- or a tin opener for the door skin!

will post pictures of the carnage

With the over centric cam thing - W/shop manual and visual indicate that's attached to the door frame with one of those nylon plugs that's fixed via a knock -in plug?? (same as the plastic sill rivets..)??
So that's a throwaway item? or bodgable?

    Sorry -revise that.
Slightly different arrangement on the front doors - the over centre cam thing is part of the lock, there's also a bellcrank above that attached by aformentioned plastic plug to door frame.
To service, both assemblies need to come out. Lock no problem but bellcrank is going to be toast - don't fancy chances of finding new part for that...
