    Engine won't Turn off

OK, new mystery - seems as though I fix one and another appears!!

The engine (3.5 carb, Fireball Elec Ignition) won't turn off. Starts not probs at all but I turn the key back and it continues to run. I have to turn the petrol/LPG switch to middle to stop the flow of petrol to the carbs to kill the engine.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Is it running on without spark? Is the coil/distributor still providing a spark to the plugs?

ignition wiring is hooked up wrong. you might have the ignition hooked up to an aux feed and once the engine is running and you turn the ignition off this is kept alive by the alternator which wont power down till the revs drop off.

I checked yesterday. I disconnected the battery and it continued running.

The diff lock light is continually on and have no reverse lights. Something's gone askew when I was "tidying" up around the gearbox, etc. I might have misattached something somewhere. will get back to you when I find it.

Still not 100% sure what it was but it now turns off. The only thing I fiddled with was the binnacle. I noticed the IGN light wasn't coming on when I turned the key (the pattern at the back is ripped so I have a makeshift bit of wire as the connection). I moved this wire back to where it should have been, noe the IGN lamp illuminates when just before startup and the engines now stops....
